Memorial Day
Monday, May 27th, is Memorial Day. There is no school. Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service. It was first observed in May 1868 when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery.

To help re-educate and remind Americans of the true meaning of Memorial Day, the "National Moment of Remembrance" resolution was passed in December 2000 which asks that at
3 p.m. local time for all Americans, "To voluntarily and informally observe in their own way a moment of remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence.

Field Day is June 4th
What are you doing on June 4th? Come have fun and spend time with students by helping out with Field Day. Coach Farrell needs volunteers to assist with regular field day events in the morning and water activities in the afternoon. We need beach balls, buckets, big sponges, coolers, and bottled water. Dads, come early to visit your child's K-3 classroom and participate in Doughnuts for Dads, then stay for Field Day. The students deserve a great day!
Awards Day
Our annual end-of-the-year Awards Day is Thursday, June 6th. The program will begin in the gym at 8:30 AM. Students will be recognized for honor roll, independent reading goals, and athletics. The 8th graders will be honored with the Lions Club awards, the Moncure Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary service scholarship, and more. Come enjoy this important time with us.
